Lilian Schaer is an independent agricultural writer, editor and communications specialist with almost two decades of experience. She works with farm groups in the crop, horticulture and livestock sectors, as well as many different agricultural organizations and businesses from the farm to the fork on communications projects and activities.
As an active freelance journalist, she covers all sectors of agriculture, with a particular specialization in research and innovation.
Lilian is also the managing editor and lead writer for AgInnovation Ontario, an online publication focused on agricultural and agri-food innovation, where her articles have been picked up by mainstream and speciality publications across Canada and internationally.
She writes regularly for the Ontario Farmer, Ontario’s largest weekly farm publication, and contributes to Grainews, Ontario Grain Farmer, AgriSuccess, Ontario Hog Farmer, Ontario Dairy Farmer, Ontario Beef, The Alliance, Greenhouse Canada, Canadian Poultry, AgAnnex Online, Sheep News, and the Ontario Apple Growers’ blog.
Previously, Lilian held management roles with several Ontario farm organizations, as well as the University of Guelph, and has also worked in Germany and in the UK. She was co-chair of the 2011 International Federation of Agricultural Journalists’ congress and was a 2010 winner of the Alltech Young Leaders Award in agricultural journalism. She is also the winner of multiple writing awards from the Canadian Farm Writers’ Federation.
